It was midnight of 22nd January, when Amin decided to take his friend’s Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster for a joyride. Barely 200 meters into the ride, he lost control of the car and rammed into two parked vehicles near Colombo Junction at Crawford Market. Like if that wasn’t bad, he ended up running over four people sleeping on the pavement, a child included.

The incident took place at 12:15 AM last night and the victims were identified as Monira Shaikh, 25, Alisha Shaikh, 41, Rashida Shaikh, 25 and Rahul Shaikh, 4. The injured were rushed to JJ Hospital, while Amin fled the scene. He says he did so because he feared getting beaten up by the massive crowd that had gathered around the scene of the accident. He was arrested 45 minutes later by a team of officials near JJ Hospital.
“Following the incident, Shaikh, a labour contractor, escaped from the spot and was arrested by a team of officials, including inspectors Mahesh Mugutrao and A Godse, from near JJ Hospital after 45 minutes. He feared getting thrashed after a crowd of around 1,500 people gathered at the spot and fled,” Sunil Kavlekar, senior inspector of Pydhonie Police station, said.
As a sigh of relief, three of the injured were discharged after receiving primary treatment. Monira has suffered a fractured shoulder and will be kept under observation for a while. Officials ran medical tests on Amin, revealing he was not drunk at the time of the accident. He was placed under arrest at 4 AM and will be produced in the court Friday morning. Amin has been charged with rash & negligent driving causing grievous injuries under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act while further probe is underway.






This is not the only supercar crash that took place in Mumbai this month. Last week, a Lamborghini Huracan ended up on the divider damaging its front portion and wheels. Lucky for them, no one was injured in the crash.
